Social and Emotional Learning:
Olympia Learning Center utilizes Social Emotional Learning (SEL) to help students build capacity to integrate skills, attitudes and behaviors to accomplish goals and successfully navigate daily tasks and challenges. We utilize the CASEL integrated framework to promote intrapersonal, interpersonal , and cognitive consciousness. Our students recieve direct instruction and practice skills in Self-awareness, Self-management, Social-awareness, Relationship skills, and Responsible Decision Making daily. Olympia Learning Center also utilizes active learning activities from the Overcoming Obstacles curriculum to support our students' growth socially and emotionally. Mindfulness:
Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us. Students at Olympia Learning Center are encouraged to use Mindful practices to help overcome stressful life situations. Olympia Learning Center has a Mindfulness Room where, under the supervision of staff, students can practice mindfulness techniques to help manage their thoughts and emotions.
Olympia Learning Center also offers a range of other SEL interventions for students including but not limited to Girls Circle, Small Group and Individual Counseling, Community/Agency Relationships and Mentorship.
